The purpose of International Service is to develop an understanding and goodwill among Rotarians and the world at large. The aim is to encourage and foster the advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace through a worldwide fellowship of business and professional persons, united in the ideal of service above self. Freedom, justice, truth ( Number 1 of the Rotary Four Way Test ), sanctity of the pledged word and respect for human rights are the cornerstones of our Rotary principles and are therefore crucial to the maintenance of international peace.

International Service can be broken down into four general areas each with it's own chairperson, reporting to and under the direction of the International Service Director.
They are:

  1. World Community Service.
  2. International Education and Cultural Exchange.
  3. Special International Observances and Events.
  4. International Meetings.

The chair of the World Community Service Committee would oversee such programs as the Polio Plus Campaign, the Night of a Thousand Dinners project and to develop new projects in support of international service.

The Foundation committee is responsible for planning a Foundation night dinner during Foundation month (November). The committee can put forward a nominee for a Paul Harris Fellowship Award, which is typically awarded on that evening.
The committee also heads up the donation drive for the Presidents Walk held in September. This is Rotary's major fundraiser for Rotary International's World Community Service projects.

The Group Study Exchange committee co-ordinates the incoming and/or outgoing groups of visiting Rotarians from other countries. This is usually done every two years. The committee looks after accommodations and schedules activities for the incoming visitors.

Our National Disaster committee would be available to assist with fund raising for a specific event. For example, the ice storms that devastated Quebec prompted clubs to raise awareness and funds and/or donations in kind to forward to the areas that suffered financial hardship as a result of the storm.

In closing, each of these committees reports to the International Service Director who then in turn reports to the Board each month
